Learn to Play - Play to Learn

SQUIRELLS

In the Squirrels group the staff: child ratio is 1:8.   We operate a keyworker system where every child is appointed a keyworker who will be responsible for planning, developing and reporting on your child’s development.  We use a software system called  “Learning Journals”, this will allow the keyworker to record written and photographic evidence of your child’s development and will allow parents  to access to this at there own convienience.

 

We follow the Curriculum for Excellence, Forest School principles and embrace the Froebelian ethos.

Experiences during a day may include:

  • Children being engaged with all that nature has to offer as well as actively being involved in a wide range of activities that encourage them to use their bodies in many different ways with lots of space and freedom to do so.
  • They will be able to run, jump, balance and climb without barriers or boundaries to inhibit their natural instinct to play, explore, be creative and take managed risks.
  • They will be able to relax and enjoy the sounds of nature and use all their senses as they experience the different textures and sounds of the earth.

Activities may include:

  • Woodland walks
  • Den building
  • Cooking on fire pit
  • Mud kitchen
  • Exploring the River Almond “ The lifeblood of Polkemmet Country Park”
  • Collecting leaves/cones/ pebbles/ branches/sticks for collage and observation
  • Story telling
  • Song time
  • Expressive dancing
  • Make your own snack
  • Picnic
  • Counting objects
  • Identifying/naming/researching …… planets, trees, birds, woodland animals etc.
